CMF Speaker S Sound Quality and Audio Performance

The CMF Speaker S is built around a custom 45mm full-range driver with a rated output of 10W RMS. Its specified frequency response ranges from 70Hz to 20kHz, covering bass, midrange vocals, and high-frequency sounds within the speaker’s designed operating range. Two passive radiators help reinforce low-frequency output, giving music more bass presence from a compact enclosure.

10W RMS Output and Custom 45mm Driver

The 10W RMS output is a key specification of this portable wireless speaker. RMS indicates continuous audio power rather than a short-duration peak rating. Combined with the 45mm driver, it provides the foundation for everyday music playback, podcasts, spoken content, and other audio entertainment.

The driver uses adaptive tuning to support the speaker’s sound presentation. However, actual listening results depend on the recording, playback volume, placement, and surrounding noise. For the best experience, use a suitable volume for your environment rather than expecting a small portable speaker to perform like a large home audio system.

Dual Passive Radiators and Ultra Bass

Bass response matters when listening to pop, electronic music, hip-hop, and other bass-heavy genres. The CMF Speaker S includes two passive radiators designed to strengthen low-frequency resonance. Its Ultra Bass feature provides an additional way to adjust the bass experience.

The result is a feature set focused on fuller low-frequency sound without relying on a large speaker enclosure. Still, bass perception varies according to the music being played and the selected volume. Ultra Bass is a useful option for listeners who prefer a stronger low-end presentation.

Wide Soundstage and Night Mode

The speaker also supports Wide Soundstage and Night Mode. These features give users additional ways to tailor audio playback to different listening situations.

Wide Soundstage is designed to influence how spacious the sound feels. Night Mode is included among the speaker’s audio features, offering another listening option for quieter environments. The official specifications do not define every detail of how these modes affect output, so their exact effect should be assessed through normal use.

Portable Design, Compact Size, and Practical Controls

The CMF Speaker S combines its audio hardware with a compact body designed for portability. Its dimensions are 130.5 × 85 × 44mm, and it weighs approximately 334g. These measurements make it convenient to carry in a bag or place on a desk without taking up much room.

Distinctive Design With a Carabiner Hook

One of the speaker’s distinctive features is its carabiner hook. This design element makes it easier to attach the speaker to a suitable bag or carry it during everyday outings. The removable panels also allow a degree of visual customisation.

CMF’s design takes inspiration from the sharp geometry of a milk carton, creating a recognisable appearance that differs from conventional rounded portable speakers. Available colours listed by the manufacturer include Dark Grey, Orange, Turquoise, and White, subject to regional availability.

A Physical Knob for Everyday Operation

Instead of relying entirely on a smartphone, the CMF Speaker S uses a tactile physical knob for playback and volume control. The knob supports the following operations:

• Rotate clockwise to increase volume.
• Rotate counterclockwise to decrease volume.
• Press once to play or pause.
• Press twice to skip to the next track.
• Press three times to return to the previous track.
• Press and hold for two seconds to switch Ultra Bass on or off.

Dedicated buttons provide access to power, Bluetooth pairing, and Auracast Party Mode. A separate toggle supports switching the positions of the knob and front panel. This control layout helps keep common playback functions accessible without repeatedly opening an app.

Bluetooth 6.0 and Wireless Connectivity

Wireless connectivity is central to the CMF Speaker S experience. The speaker supports Bluetooth 6.0, allowing compatible devices to connect without a physical audio cable. It also supports dual-device connections, NFC Fast Pair, Google Fast Pair, and Microsoft Swift Pair.

Bluetooth 6.0 and Dual-Device Connections

Bluetooth 6.0 provides the speaker’s wireless connection standard. The manufacturer’s specifications list a connection range exceeding 100 metres in free space. This is a stated ideal-condition figure, not a guarantee of the same range inside a building. Walls, interference, connected devices, and other environmental factors can reduce the usable distance.

Dual-device connectivity allows two devices to remain connected simultaneously. For example, a user can connect a compatible smartphone and laptop, then switch between audio sources as needed. This can be useful when moving between personal listening and computer-based entertainment.

Fast Pair and NFC Support

The CMF Speaker S supports NFC Fast Pair and Google and Microsoft pairing features. These options are designed to simplify the initial connection process on compatible devices.

Rather than navigating through Bluetooth settings every time, users can benefit from supported quick-pairing functions. Availability and behaviour depend on the connected device and its operating system.

USB-C Audio Playback

Bluetooth is not the only way to play music through this speaker. The USB-C port also supports wired audio playback, with the manufacturer specifying audio latency below 60 milliseconds in this mode. The speaker lists AAC, SBC, and LC3 codecs, with LC3

Wired USB-C playback can be useful when connecting a compatible computer or another supported source. It also offers an alternative when you prefer not to use a wireless connection. Make sure the source device supports the required audio output before choosing this connection method.

Stereo Mode and Auracast Party Mode

The CMF Speaker S includes two multi-speaker features that serve different purposes. Stereo Mode is designed to create a wider left-right soundstage using two compatible Speaker S units. Party Mode, powered by Auracast, allows compatible speakers to be linked for broader audio coverage.

Stereo Mode for a Wider Listening Experience

When two Speaker S units are paired in Stereo Mode, audio can be distributed between the left and right channels. This can create a more spatial listening experience than using a single speaker.

A two-speaker arrangement may be useful for a desk, a room, or another suitable listening area. However, this function requires a second compatible speaker, so it is not a feature that can be fully experienced with just one unit.

Auracast Party Mode for Shared Audio

Auracast Party Mode is designed to connect compatible speakers and expand sound coverage. It can be useful when several people want to listen to the same music in a shared space.

Compatibility is important because the receiving devices must support the relevant Auracast functionality. As a result, this feature should be considered a way to expand a compatible audio setup rather than a guarantee that the speaker will connect to every Bluetooth speaker available.

Battery Life, Fast Charging, and USB-C Power

Battery performance is an important consideration when choosing a portable Bluetooth speaker. The CMF Speaker S contains a 2,600mAh rechargeable lithium-ion battery rated at 3.8V. According to the manufacturer’s specifications, it can provide up to 18 hours of AAC playback under stated test conditions, with Ultra Bass enabled and the volume at 50%.

Up to 18 Hours of Playback

The advertised maximum playback time can make the CMF Speaker S suitable for extended listening sessions between charges. Nevertheless, the actual battery life will depend on the volume level, audio content, selected sound features, connection conditions, and battery condition.

For example, playing audio at a higher volume may consume more power than listening at a moderate level. Therefore, the maximum figure should be treated as a test-condition result rather than a guaranteed duration for every user.

USB-C Charging and Fast Charging

The speaker charges through USB-C, with a specified charging input of 5V/3A. The manufacturer lists a full charging time of approximately 2.5 hours under the specified charging conditions.

A further convenience is the fast-charging feature. A 10-minute charge can provide up to one hour of playback under the stated test conditions. This can be useful when you need a short listening session but have limited time to recharge the battery.

IP68 Dust and Water Protection

The CMF Speaker S has an IP68 protection rating, which identifies its tested level of protection against dust and water ingress. This rating is a useful feature for a portable device that may be carried between different environments.

However, an IP rating does not mean that every type of water exposure is safe. The manufacturer’s support guidance says the speaker is not intended for swimming, other water-based sports, or shower use. It also notes that liquid-immersion damage is not covered under warranty.

For everyday care, follow the manufacturer’s handling and cleaning instructions. If the speaker becomes wet, wipe it with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth and avoid using heat or compressed air to dry it. Protection ratings should not be treated as permission to expose electronic equipment to unnecessary risks.

Nothing X App and Custom EQ Settings

The CMF Speaker S supports the Nothing X app, which provides access to sound customisation features. Users can choose from four listed EQ presets: Balanced, More Bass, More Treble, and Voice. A Custom EQ option also allows more detailed adjustment of the sound profile.

These options are useful because different audio content can benefit from different sound settings. Balanced provides a general-purpose preset, while More Bass emphasises a bass-oriented presentation. More Treble and Voice offer alternative profiles for listeners who prefer a different sound emphasis.

Custom EQ gives users greater control over their preferred audio presentation. However, app availability, menus, and compatibility can depend on the connected phone and software version. Checking device compatibility helps ensure that you can access the controls you intend to use.
